In their own words, ArtPrize is an international art competition & cultural festival, a celebration of ideas, conversations, experimentation and inclusiveness. For over sixteen days, over 700,000 people travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to experience everything ArtPrize has to offer.
In 2023, ArtPrize, like many such festivals, was still struggling with the fallout from 2020, and aiming to recapture the energy and excitement of the pre-pandemic days. They were looking for a bold new website to accompany their bold new brand redesign. I worked closely with their creative team to develop a robust app-like website which encouraged user discovery for everything from art, to events, to frequently asked questions.
We prioritized large vibrant imagery and an intuitive templated design which felt fresh but still allowed for predictable navigation through the vast amount of on-site content. The team at Rocani prioritized creating a performant site to account for vast on-the-ground crowds and the potential for spotty internet connections. In the end, the website is built to grow and scale with the ArtPrize festival, for many years to come.

The 'action bar' is a key component of the site experience. This free floating navigation component is featured site wide, and is fully customizable to the page and the content, with key functionality based on the needs of the page. Below you can see the nav experience for the homepage, artist page, and FAQs respectively. For a website focused on the IRL experience, it was imperative that the action bar be fully responsive, maintaining the same functionality regardless of the device being used.
